William LaDell Ratcliffe, 92 passed away Tuesday July 5, 2022 surrounded by his children.
Bill was born August 31, 1929 to Delbert and Gladys Ratcliffe in Tooele, Utah. Bill spent his early years in Spring Valley, Nevada on his Grampa Boundy’s ranch. He attended school in Grantsville where he played football, basketball and track. He also served as the Student Body President. He graduated in 1948. One of Bill’s favorite past times was to drag race in his “35” Ford.
Like many of his classmates, Bill served in the Navy from 1948-1952. Upon returning from the Navy, he worked in various jobs, including carpentry and the Railroad Signal Gang. He also managed his own restaurant for a time. Bill worked for several salt plants in the area and mentored many young people that worked under him. He retired after 45 years from Morton Salt.
He married his Sweetheart Faye Miller in Elko, NV on June 25, 1955. They were blessed with 5 children. Bill and Faye were well known for their passion for dancing. Bill was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He will always be remembered for his honesty, quick wit, kindness and hard work ethic.
He is survived by his 5 children and their spouses all of Grantsville. Lynn (Jay) Anderson, Julie (Gary) Butler, Diane (Scott) Bevan, Bill (Lisa) Ratcliffe and Craig (Danielle) Ratcliffe. 17 Grandchildren, 39 Great Grandchildren and 1 Great Great Grandchild, proudly call him Grampa Bill. He is also survived by his sister Mary June (Roland) Anderson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Delbert and Gladys Ratcliffe, his wife Faye, brother Delano Ratcliffe and 3 grandchildren, Britt, Josh and Blake.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday July 8, 2022 at 12:00 pm. A viewing will be held the same day preceding the service from 10:00-11:30 am. Services will be held at the Grantsville West Stake Center, 115 East Cherry Street.
