Sherry Jeanine Welch passed away on October 17, 2025, at the age of 72. She was born on February 17, 1953, in Santa Maria, California, to Lowell Douglas Harper and Bee Tenney Harper. Sherry was the youngest of four children. She was the flower girl at her sister Margaret’s wedding when she was very young and often liked to point out that she was closer in age to her nephews than to her actual siblings.

She graduated from Nordhoff High School in Ojai, California (Class of 1971), where she met her high school sweetheart, John. She shared the gospel with him, and together they were later sealed in the Los Angeles Temple, eventually welcoming five children into their family.

Sherry found immense joy in her roles as a mother and grandmother. She loved spending time at the beach and could often be found with a cat in her lap or a book in her hand. She cherished her time in the Ojai Valley and often reminisced about the many happy memories she made there.

Sherry later moved her family to Utah, settling in the Tooele Valley, which she called home for almost 30 years. She dedicated over twenty years to working at the Tooele Deseret Industries, where she deeply valued the lasting friendships she formed.

Sherry took great pride in her pioneer heritage, honoring the legacy of her ancestors who helped settle much of Utah and Arizona. She was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had a great love for her Savior, Jesus Christ.

She is survived by her devoted husband, John, with whom she shared more than 51 years of love and partnership. Sherry will be deeply missed by her five children: Angela (Nathan), Brandon (Charlene), Andrew (Tami), Melissa (Lana), and Eric (Alexa), as well as her eight grandchildren, who brought immense joy to her life. She also leaves behind her loving sister, Margaret, and brother, Mike, along with nieces and nephews who held a special place in her heart.

Those wishing to pay their respects are welcome to join her family for a viewing on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the LDS Skyline Chapel, 777 Skyline Drive, Tooele, UT 84074. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at the same location.

Sherry was a jewel of a woman. She was so sweet and welcoming to our family when we moved to Santa Paula in 1986. May you all find comfort and peace at this most difficult time and may you treasure your precious memories that are yours to keep forever. ❤️

I grew up in the Santa Paula California ward and Sister Welch was a big part of my testimony because growing up she was apart of the leadership that helped mold my testimony. She was always such a sweet person and I remember her most with me in Young Woman's and YW Camp. She was an amazing mother and I grew up around the same age as most of her kids. She will be missed but never forgotten.
