Gwen Murray April 15, 1948 — September 15, 2025 Grantsville
Gwen Durfee Murray, loving wife of David Murray and devoted mother to Ryan, passed away on September 15, 2025.
Gwen was born on April 15, 1948, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Ida Anderson Durfee and Lowell Durfee. She grew up in Grantsville with her siblings, Lola and Phil. Gwen graduated from Grantsville High School, where she was a proud Lariat on the drill team.
She worked as a waitress for many years before beginning her career at the Tooele Army Depot, where she was employed until the depot closed in 1995.
A faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Gwen found joy in serving others. She especially loved working with the youth through Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts of America and as a Road Show Director for several years. After retirement, she spent hours doing genealogy, discovering and preserving her family's history.
Gwen was preceded in death by her parents, Ida and Lowell Durfee, and her brother, Phillip Durfee. She is survived by her husband, David Murray; her son, Ryan (Angelique) Murray; her cherished granddaughter, Destiny; and her sister, Lola Stout.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, September 18, at 10:00 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at the Grantsville 12th Ward, 428 S. Hale Street, Grantsville, Utah. Interment will follow at the Grantsville City Cemetery. Services entrusted with Didericksen Memorial.

Not only was Gwen a neighbor, but Dee and I worked with her on a few roadshows. I remember in particular, “Does your chewing gum lose its flavor on the bedpost overnight?” We had a lot of fun with that one! Gwen was so fun and nice to everyone. She was a special lady.

I’ve known Gwen since high school. We shared a seat on many bus rides to work in SLC. She was always very sweet and looked after me. She will be missed terribly, but we’ll be seeing her on the other side of the veil soon.
May God bless her family and wrap them in His loving embrace.
