Jolynne Brown Burr November 19, 1942 — June 26, 2025
Jolynne Brown Burr, born November 19, 1942 in Tooele, Utah, passed away June 26, 2025 in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Her parents are Robert Maurice Brown and Jane Elizabeth Rydalch Brown. She grew up in her beloved hometown of Grantsville, Utah, where she learned to work hard beside her dad on the farm.
She graduated from Grantsville High School with the famous Class of 1961. She was a cheerleader, lariat, homecoming queen, voted most talented, and served as co-chair of her junior prom.
She attended College of Southern Utah, where she was a member of the Chi Sigma Upsilon sorority and was selected Snow Queen. She graduated with a teaching degree from Utah State University in 1965. She taught school in Granger, Tooele, and Grantsville.
In 1967, she married the love of her life, John D. Burr. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake City Temple in April of 1978. John’s career took them to Sherman Oaks, California, Plano, Texas, Grantsville, and finally the Mesa, Arizona area.
Wherever she lived, she was active in the LDS church serving as Primary President, Relief Society President, teacher and missionary, with John, in the China Hong Kong Mission.
She and John traveled the world, but she especially made a point to travel home to Grantsville every year to attend the Old Folks Sociable, Grantsville Queen Contest, and 4th of July festivities. She never met a stranger and always made a connection to Grantsville or a relative.
She and John have three children Cary, Colby and his wife, Natalie, and Janan and her husband Matt Gless. She also has a stepson, Johnnie. Though she loved her children deeply, it was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who lit up her world. She treasured every moment with them, poured her heart into their lives, and found immeasurable joy in being their Grammy.
She is survived by her children, eight grandchildren and three great-granddaughters. She is also survived by her brothers and sisters, Janice Marriott, Maureen Peterson and her husband, Roger, Richard Brown and his wife, Angela, and Cory Brown.

Jolynne was, is, and will always be, my cousin, my almost sister, and my buddy. There is no time in my life that she wasn’t a part of it, and will be forever.
We spent time each summer staying a week at each other’s houses playing together and getting into trouble together (like being sent to bed to nap for being naughty!) My mother made us matching dresses and Aunt Jane bought us matching shoes. We played volleyball in the street with the neighborhood kids in Grantsville. She was great and I was afraid of the ball.
Jolynne always looked like she was smiling, even when she was sad. I remember always wanting to look like that — always smiling. I believe it was her smile that motivated me to always try to be smiling — and to carry my smile often.
Jolynne was a tap dancer, and I thought she was wonderful. I wanted to be a tap dancer also. But I ended up in creative dance partially because of my flexibility – I could do the “Chinese“ splits. Jolynne liked that. So she worked and worked at it until she could do it too – just like me!
We went to Grantsville quite often as Mother had both Aunt Jane and another sister, as well as other family there. My brothers and I never wanted to go anywhere but the Browns. We loved playing with the girls and being on the farm, especially to help bring the cows home in the evening. Geoff was the same age as Maureen, which made it even more fun. Wynston especially enjoyed being with Jolynne and Uncle Maurice and loved being around the animals. We just fit in there.
Our families always got together for Thanksgiving at our house and New Year’s Day at the Browns’. It was a tradition and we always think of the Browns on those holidays and have missed being with them in these grown-up years because of the distance separating us.
As an only girl, I always had a lot of lovely clothes. As I didn’t grow much or fast, I would get tired of clothes before I outgrew them. They always went to the Browns. So when they came for Thanksgiving, the girls would go through my closet and pick which ones they would like. It always made me happy that they liked my clothes.
Jolynne was a year older than me. So she went off to the College of Southern Utah in Cedar City the year before I joined her there. I pledged the same sorority, danced with her, and at times, lived with her. After graduation, we lived together in Salt Lake City.
She will always be my buddy and almost sister. I love her dearly and will miss her extremely..
