Evelyn Koford Brown July 17, 1926 — January 30, 2025 Grantsville
Evelyn Brown passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 30, 2025, at age 98. Evelyn was born in Bothwell, Utah on July 17, 1926, to Vaughn Wilford Koford and Mahala Marr Ellis Koford. She was the oldest of six children. Evelyn married her sweetheart, Ray Calvin Brown on April 9, 1947, in the Salt Lake City Temple.
Evelyn’s family moved from Bothwell before her senior year of high school. She graduated from Grantsville High School. It was in Grantsville that Evelyn met her eternal companion. Calvin and Evelyn raised their family in Grantsville.
Evelyn lived a long happy life working hard and serving her family. She was faithful in the gospel, and doing what the Savior asked of her. Evelyn served faithfully in many callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Mom and Dad served at the Jordan River Temple. They also served a mission at the Mormon Battalion Visitor Center, which included taking visitors on tours at the San Diego Temple grounds.
If you knew Evelyn, you knew what a great cook she was. She worked at the Grantsville Skyline where she made the pastries and rolls. She knew how to make everything taste good. Evelyn’s passions included quilting and sewing. She joined the Tooele County Quilters Guild and spent many hours making amazing quilts. Calvin grew a fabulous garden and Evelyn preserved everything he grew.
Calvin preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her parents, her brother Eldon Koford; sisters Donna Jean Brown, and Maxine Smith Allred, a son-in-law Bruce Loakes, grand-daughter Nicki Sorensen and several great-grandchildren. She is survived by sisters Lois Young and Raylyn Jeffrey; two sons Rob (Billie) and Ed (Lauri); four daughters Caleen Brown, Helen (Ron) Stromberg, Coralee (Ray) Riding, and Paula Loakes, 19 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren with one more on the way, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 6, 2025, at the Grantsville West Stake Center, 115 East Cherry Street at 11:30. A viewing will be held that morning from 10:00-11:30.
Our family is grateful for the care she received and would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Diamond Jane’s and the hospice staff.
