Rita Evans taught me in church when I was a young boy. I dont remember any of the lessons from my class, but I do remember she invited the class members to come out to her home if they wanted. I didnt know exactly where she lived, but after I visited her I always knew that she lived at the house in Skull Valley that had all the big, green trees surrounding it in the middle of the barren desert landscape. One Sunday after church my parents took me to her house in the valley. I was shocked, in the way that only young children can be, by the size of the goldfish swimming in the water trough, the brilliant feathers of the peacocks, and the simple warmth and love she had for a shy young boy. We had ice cream or popsicles inside and then I left. Looking back now it seems like such a small afternoon to remember for over twenty years, and she may not have remembered it all, but I still cant help but think of that afternoonof her kindness and generositywhenever I see those brilliant peacock feathers.
