Spock and Our Dad. Jenny and I were not allowed to watch Bewitched or Star Trek because of our dad forbidding it. Dad was a man of complete logic, science and history. Bewitched and Star Trek we're not real. We watched all we wanted of those shows at Jackie's or Aunt Ovie's. Once Jenny and I were sitting on the couch reading Harlequin romances. My dad took the books out of our hands and replaced them with The Carlovingian Kings and The Merovingian Kings. A fun memory was laying on Aunt Ovie's big living room floor, on our stomachs on pillows watching Star Trek. There was Jenny, me, Jeff, Tim, Todd and Julie. None of us were allowed to make a peep because Uncle Bert loooooved Star Trek. The irony is, I always really liked Star Trek, and especially Spock, because he reminded me of my dad.

Jenny Was Smart. I'm looking through boxes of old stuff and found Jenny's high school diploma with this little piece of paper that says, " Warrior Scholar for Outstanding Academic Achievement of being an Honor Roll Student for all Twelve Terms during your High School experience.". I would always ask Jenny all kind of things, and she would know the answer. I had watched a weird old movie with Jimmy Stewart and Kim Novak about witches and spells, and I kind of liked it but it went away before I caught what the name of the movie was. Jenny said," The Bell, The Book and The Candle". My dad was like that too. You could ask him almost anything and he would know the answer.

Jenny's Parents. Ferron and Ruth were wonderful parents. We had a loving and fun childhood. Dad paid for all kinds of lessons for us. One year we both got guitars for Christmas. We got to take guitar lessons in a group, community lessons taught by these two fun hippie teachers that taught us how to play the popular songs on the radio. Dad was always just sitting in a chair, reading a book. Mom was always cooking, cleaning or ironing. Jenny and I went to school in little dresses with ironed seams ( dresses were required until I hit Jr. High). We grew up in North Ogden in a house with a giant back yard. We had our own small orchard with a chicken coop and chickens. Dad grew an enormous garden. One year for Christmas, Santa brought Jenny an enormous (4 foot long), bazooka gun. It shot plastic bullets that were 3 inches long. What a fun present Santa! We had so much fun with that Bazooka gun!

Jenny Could Sing. Jenny was very musical. We both took piano lessons from Mrs. Chamberlain. Jenny and I could play all the duets from the book in this photo. We played them over and over, because it was fun. Jenny stopped piano lessons after three years. I kept going, switched to a teacher downtown Ogden. My dad ( more logical than Spok, from Star Trek), said to me one day, "I've been paying for piano lessons for you for eight years now. Don't you know how to play the piano now? " His logic was always right. Jenny and I were in the orchestra together at school. I played violin and Jenny got quite good on the viola. I was never very good. But, Jenny could also sing. My mom got a professional type singer that she knew some how to come listen Jenny and me sing. She said, and I quote "You have perfect pitch, but your voice is a little weak and squeaky (that was to me), but you, you have perfect pitch and your voice is beautiful!" So, I was the piano player for the primary for 3 years, and Jenny was the chorister. We also sang together in the ward quoir. One time around Christmas, the ward quoir asked us (well Jenny, I just had one little line), to sing the solo part in a number the choir was doing. We did it! My dad was always the ward clerk, so he was sitting just a few feet away from the quoir. When we got home, we excitedly asked our dad, " did you hear our solo?" .......What solo, did you two sing a solo?"

Jenny's beautiful cards. If you were waiting for a Halloween card from Jenny, she tried. She had all her Halloween stuff all layed out and she just couldn't do it. I thought her Halloween cards last year (of the mummy and Frankenstein heads) were hilarious. I know Gentry has saved every card Jenny ever sent her. Jenny did have beautiful and incredible hands. Back in the day, Jenny would want me to make cards with her. I would sit by her with all her gadgets and stuff spread out, and she would do these amazing, intricate things. I'm good with my hands too, and I couldn't do it. I'm telling you, Jenny had amazing hands.

Jenny in the Paper. 0n Nov. 28, 2024, Jenny appeared in our local, Soda Springs paper. People at her LDS ward, turned around at church and said they had seen her in the paper. She loved it and pinned it on her bulletin board, right by her chair. I was having a little art show at the local flower shop called "Wild Life and Sage". My friend Marie (owner of Soda Springs Floral ), and I thought that Jenny should also put some of her handmade cards and paper crafts for sale. Jenny got very excited about this and got busy making more paper gifts. She made 20 little paper purses and added a special surprise inside. if you bought something at the art show, you got one of these purses with prize inside free. Jenny's cards are beautiful and she sold quite a few things at the show. Am amazing reporter showed up to write a piece for the paper. This reporter (Brandon Hall), wrote an excellent piece. I didn't know he was coming and I was just blathering on about how I like to paint Plein Air, etc. Jenny would keep me on track by mentioning awards I've received and forgot. I now regret going on and on about myself, and not mentioning Jenny's beautiful hand made cards. That's typical though, Jenny always willing to take the back seat, although she was amazing herself. It was a fun show though. I was trying to feature local wild life paintings in their natural habitat. My sweet Carla drove all the way from Ogden to come to the art show and she purchased my pygmy rabbit painting and some of Jenny's cards. The best thing was that she got to see Jenny and visit with her.

Glamour Shots at the Mall. I can't remember if it was the 80s or the 90s. Jenny insisted we go get glamour Shots taken at the Mall. She had to drag me because I didn't want to do it. Roger framed her 16" by 20 " in a gold frame and hung it up immediately. I only printed a small 4" by 7" and gave it Ed (current husband at the time) for him to put on his desk at work. Ed laughed and said no. He didn't want his fellow employees to think he was married to a hooker.🤣Just now I was trying to have my first non- crying day. Before I called to shut off Jenny's phone, I called her one last time. She used my glamour shot for my picture. So much for a non crying day!

Nieces, Nephews and Babies. If Jenny was your aunt, she loved you. My babies were her babies. My children were her children. Jackie and Bob's children were also Jenny's children. You were loved more than you know.

Jenny's Last Halloween. Jenny spent her last Halloween in the Heritage Assisted Living Home. They have the residents sit in a semi- circle and hand out candy. Jenny was too shy to sit in the semi- circle, so she sat in the back and waited for Ferron to come. She was so excited. Not only did Ferron come in a Mario costume, but also Donkey Kong and a beautiful mushroom. She also really enjoyed looking at the pictures of my other grandkids in their funny Halloween costumes.

Family Reunions. Jenny truly loved her family. She and Roger came up for the Idaho family reunion and got a hotel room for two nights here in town. Jenny and Roger really enjoyed the campfire light show that Zaz put on. He does this numb chuck twirly thing with glow sticks. Jenny and Roger were clapping and laughing so hard at that. Sadly, Bob died not too long after that reunion, and later Roger. For our most recent reunion, Jenny was living here with me. She had a really hard puzzle going on the kitchen table and I know that Jenny loved that Kathy and Gentry helped her finish that really hard puzzle.

Jenny's last 5 months at Heritage. This little Assisted Living Home in Soda is wonderful. Within 2 months Jenny had quite a few of the staff doing special favors just for her. Jenny had bad nausea, so the head cook would make special dinners just for her, maybe just soup. Jenny loved to go down to Bingo, three times a week. Jenny was the youngest and brightest resident at Heritage, so she always won Bingo. Instead of picking out a treat, she would always take a root beer. The very last time she played Bingo, (three days short of passing away) she was greatly diminished and didn't win Bingo. Cindy gave her two root beers anyway. Casey and Brimlee are so sad Jenny s gone. Everyone loved her and wanted her to stay there for many more years. There's a story 101 year old living at Heritage. I always thought that 101 year old lady was going to outlive Jenny. She did.

SCRABBLE. Jenny loved to play Scrabble, and she was good at it. Kathy, Cody, Shay and Jenny played quite a competitive game of Scrabble at our last family reunion. Jenny and I have played at least 1,000 or more games of Scrabble. We had fun and would get quite competitive. If we were sick or worn out, we would play pathetic games of just four letter words. Jenny was better at math than me. She could add a bingo, plus triple word, plus 12 in her head. I would have to do it on paper. One week before she passed, we played our last Scrabble game. It was a good, competitive game. Jenny won. Even with advanced brain cancer, Jenny could beat me at Scrabble.

Jenny's only brother Our brother Bob was named for my uncle Duane, who was killed in WWII. Robert Duane Jones. He was bigger than life, literally and figuratively, he was 6'5". At Gentry's wedding Byron said, " I forgot how massive Bob is". He raised and maybe even bred paint horses and got his thumb completely pulled off by a horse. He has won many hunting awards, broke hunting records ( biggest bear shot with a bow in Idaho ), ( 2nd biggest wild boar in Russia). He won alot of belt buckles for team penning rodeo events. He was a Western author and wrote two books. Bob got all the confidence, Jenny had none. Jenny was very shy and had social anxiety. Bob could do anything.

Jenny's Last Holiday. Zaz invited Jenny to his house for Thanksgiving. We had to go to Heritage Assisted Living and put her in a wheelchair. We couldn't get the wheelchair up Zaz stairs. Jenny was paralyzed by this time. Gunnar put Jenny's arms around his neck and back packed carried her into the house. Once on the comfy couch, Jenny laughed and told us stories and we all had a wonderful time. Her last holiday was spent with laughing children and loving family. Miss you Jenny.♥️

Jenny was not just a crafter, she was a super crafter. She was so good with her hands that she could make delicate hand made cards that we all looked forward to getting in the mail. One of the very last things she did was run a Christmas card craft class at the Heritage Assisted Living Center. These classes usually last about an hour. This one was so popular that the seniors stayed there making cards for 2 hours. Jenny had donated all the supplies and had spent a week punching out little Santa's, reindeer, presents and other Christmas things. During the class Jenny was in a wheelchair because her legs were paralyzed by this time, but she still had the use of her incredible hands. During the class, if someone got stuck, Jenny would say, "Cindy, roll me down there next to them so I can help them".

Jenny and Gentry. When I married Frank, we moved into a scummy house and Jenny moved into the even scummier basement apartment. Then we all started making more money and Frank and I moved into a nicer 12 unit apartment complex downstairs, and Jenny rented an apartment right above us. Then Frank and I bought a house by Provo lake with a finished basement and Jenny moved in with us (Frank loved Jenny by the way, I think everyone loved Jenny). Gentry was born in this house. Then I divorced Frank and moved into Willowbrook apartments in Orem and Jenny moved in with me. I was a full time art teacher now and had to be at work by 6 s.m. For Gentry's entire Kindergarten year, Jenny let Gentry sleep in, fed her breakfast, got her dressed and took her to Kindergarten. Then Jenny would head to her job at Burrells Press Clipping. Yes, I've helped Jenny over the years, but I think she helped me more.

Jacqueline, Jennifer and JoAnn. We three sisters have always had a blast together. Jackie would take Jenny and I fun places like Lagoon when we were young. We've all three stayed close and have always been there for each other. Bob was always off hunting something somewhere and we didn't want to go hunting. Jackie lived in California for quite a long time and she would take us to San Francisco, Knottsberry Farm, The Beach, Great America etc. But the funnest one was going to see K C and The Sunshine Band in San Jose. It was a round, rotating stage and we were on the second row. I have so many wonderful memories with Jenny and Jackie.♥️♥️♥️

Jenny and Roger. When Jenny married Roger, she and I were not joined at the hip anymore. She was so in love with Roger and so happy. He treated her like a queen and took such good care of her. Our whole family just adored Roger. To me he had European manners and hospitality. She had a loving, wonderful marriage. Jenny has always had health issues and couldn't have children. However, Jenny adored her step kids and grandchildren. She loved that big happy family with all her heart. When Roger passed away, just three years ago now, I knew Jenny would be in trouble. I went and got her and moved her in with Byron and me. She layed in a bed for one year and was very depressed because Roger had died. Byron and I would bring her food and she would just lay in bed and say things like "What is the point of me being alive now that Roger's gone". After one year, she snapped back, got out of bed and said she was sorry but she had been sad about losing Roger. At her worst times I would say, "Well, you are still alive Jenny, so snap those fake, water proof boobs on, get your swim suit on and let's go to Lava and get in the hot pools". And we would.

All my fun childhood memories had Jenny right by my side. Bob and Jackie grew up together. Jenny and I grew up together. The concerts that Jenny and I attended were: The Monkees, Three Dog Night, Gary Puckett and the Union Gap, Seals and Croft, Looking Glass, America, Kansas, America, Chicago, K. C. and the Sunshine Band and Corey Hart. But, our all time favorite was Gordon Lightfoot. Jenny had the CD "Gord's Gold's" and we would drive around in Jenny's yellow subaru singing The Edmund Fitzgerald, The Canadian Railroad Trilogy and If You Could Read My Mind Love at the top of our lungs. I like to sing, but Jenny could actually sing. After we got to see Gordon Lightfoot in person, (this was about 10 years ago), Jenny bought his latest CD. We sang those songs at the top of our lungs, all the way home.
