Janet Lynn Fawson
August 23, 1947 — May 20, 2025
Grantsville

Janet Lynn Fawson was born August 23, 1947, to Lucille Evans and Lloyd Carlyle Pack, Sr. in Los Angeles, California, where she was raised most of her life. She loved her childhood there, always talking about the friends and neighbors who touched her life. She also witnessed the creation of Disneyland and kept her love for the park throughout her life.

While in high school, her family moved to Laie, Hawaii, while her father taught at the College of Hawaii for a year. Her time there instilled a great love of the islands in Janet. She learned to hula and visited multiple times.

Janet attended Brigham Young University, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Clothing and Textiles. That was her study, but in reality, she was a natural in making a house a home. All were welcomed as friend and family. Her baking, ice cream bars, and laughter instantly drew everyone in. Creating a home was truly Mom’s specialty.

Janet was sealed to Gary Lyman Fawson on September 9, 1970, in the Los Angeles, California Temple. Together they built a life of work and pleasure. Together they created spaces of beauty and light for all to partake. Together they traveled the world. Together they worked side by side to build a life they wanted. Together they experienced the joys and sorrows life will bring.

Janet was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she devoted hours of her time serving in many capacities. Teaching was a gift and love of hers, and she loved learning. She took community classes in Spanish and received her teaching credential and taught a bilingual elementary class for one year. Later, she taught remedial reading at the elementary school for a few years.

After raising their five children in Ukiah, California, Gary and Janet moved to Grantsville, Utah, where Mom continued to love and serve. She created programs for the Old Folks Sociable, assisted Gary with the tree campaign, and hosted garden tours. She also spent many hours mowing their lawns!

After years of struggling with Parkinson’s Disease, Janet finally reunited with her husband on May 20, 2025.

She is survived by her five children: Emily Flake (Curtis), Andrea Smith (Jim), Richard Fawson (Elizabeth), Julia Hathaway (J), and Christine Hill (Ross); three of her siblings: Lyle Pack, Donna McEvoy (Roger), and Rachel VanValkenburg (Peter); and her 27 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

Janet will be remembered most for her generous hospitality, her baking abilities, and her genuine interest in making other people happy. There are many who have been touched by her influence, which will continue to live on through them.

A funeral service will be held Friday, May 23, 2025, at 2:30 p.m. at the LDS Church on 550 E Durfee St. in Grantsville, UT. A viewing will precede the service on Friday from 1:00-2:15 p.m. Interment will follow at the Grantsville City Cemetery.  Services entrusted with Didericksen Memorial, 435-277-0050.

I will never forget the time Janet was teaching a Relief Society lesson, and she talked about being discouraged because of not being able to keep up with the kids and the housework both, at least not in the way she wanted to. She expressed to a friend that she wanted to get a closet cleaned out (or something like that) and her friend said, "Forget the whole closet. Set your goal for a drawer." And Janet said, "Hey, make the goal a drawer or a part of a shelf or just one little thing. Don't worry about taking giant strides, baby steps are good enough." That advice struck me and stuck with me all my life, although it's been forty years, and it applies to a lot more than just housework. She was a great influence on my life, and lives on. Much love to you all.

I got to visit with her when I came to Jim and Andrea's. She would pick up a conversation we would have from a previous visit. I felt I was important and very loved when I was near her. I will miss her laughter. I love her very much, and I will miss her dearly.

Janet, you will be dearly missed. I remember the last time I saw you, you expressed your deep desire to be reunited with your sweetheart Gary, and I’m grateful that your wish has been fulfilled. I know every time I visited you, you were so willing to share nuts, candy bars, or encouragement as I left. You were always so kind and sharing your beautiful heaven on earth, as you threw me a party when I remarried. I was so blessed to know you as I lived in your ward. I will miss your infectious, laugh and beautiful smile. May your family be blessed with comfort and knowing that you are very happy now, all my love to you.💓

Our life would never have been so sweet without Janet and Gary. The adventures we shared-a novel and legend in our family. Our hearts are broken we can no longer find our two dear friends walking their lovely property, or Janet cooking in the kitchen, the laughter, the hugs, the crafty plans. My favorite memory with Janet was in Ukiah, we lived down the road from them. I made many visits to the house to find Janet painting the walls. It seems the kids like to draw on the walls and instead of stopping them she just painted. Happy kids. Good bye Janet if I smell your pumpkin cookies on the wind I'll know you found a kitchen in heaven.

I will miss my visit with you. I know of your desire to be with Gary again. Give him a hug for me too. You were special to work with in my declining years and then at cottage glen. I loved the peanut butter cups, but it was you that I went to visit with. I wuv you.

As we reflect the memories of such am extraordinary woman, we are reminded of the profound impact she had on our lives. Janet was a beacon of light and love, whose Christ-like compassion touched everyone around her. Her unwavering kindness, gentle spirit, and selfless nature inspired us all to be better and to love deeper. We cherish the countless moments we shared, filled with laughter, warmth, and her unique ability to make everyone feel special. Janet taught us the true meaning of love—unconditional and boundless. Her presence was a gift, and her love will forever resonate in our hearts. Though we miss her dearly, we take comfort in knowing that her spirit lives on in the love we share as a family. Janet will always be a part of us, guiding us with her example and reminding us to love one another as she loved us. We love you, Janet, and we will carry your memory with us always. You are forever in our hearts.
