JOSEPH PARK CALDWELL, JR. 1936-2020

Joseph Park Caldwell, Jr. passed away at home with loved ones by his side in Tooele, Utah on Sunday, November 22, 2020. Joe was born December 4, 1936 to Gertrude Lavone Glenn and Joseph Park Caldwell in Tooele, Utah. He graduated from Tooele High School where he played basketball and from Utah State University.

Joe was a lifelong resident of Tooele and was a member of the Tooele Volunteer Fire Department for over fifty years where he served a tenure as Chief. Joe also served as President of the Utah State Firemen’s Association and also as Secretary of the same organization. Joe retired from the Tooele Army Depot after twenty seven years as an Analyst.

His hobbies included trap shooting, hunting and fishing with family and friends, sporting events especially when the grandkids were playing. He loved going to the “THE FARM” where he raised an enormous garden which he shared with family and friends. He loved taking the grandkids to “work” at the farm.

Joe was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many capacities over the years. One of the most fulfilling experiences of his life was serving as a temple ordinance worker with his wife Karen in the Salt Lake Temple.

His greatest joy was his family. He was a patriarch of his children and grandchildren and was respected and loved by them all.

He was preceded in death by his daughter Kathy, sons Joe and Greg, brother John B. and his parents.

Joe is survived by his wife, Karen: children: Mark (Heather), Eric (Leeya Seng), Steve Gowans (Sheila), Kyle White (Brian), Shannon Gowans (Jason Sparks), eighteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren, and Brother Glenn Caldwell.

Private graveside services will be held on Monday, November 30, 2020 in Tooele, Utah.

A special thank you to Intermountain Hospice and Joe’s Hospice Nurse, Dennis Keyes, who was such a tremendous support.

Joe is one of my favorite people of all time. I didn't know him at all the first day he brought Eric to football practice when the kids were 8 years old. After practice he introduced himself and asked if he could help coach with us.I remember it like it was yesterday. Joe said, "I would like to help you coach this team. I don't shit about football, so I won't get I your way with that, but I am pretty darn good at keeping upset parents away from you, so you won't have to worry about dealing with them." From that day on, Coach Joe helped me coach football, basketball and baseball. Laurie and I considered ourselves lucky to call him (and Virginia) friends for all these years. RIP, my friend.Love,Ken and Laurie Nunley

A first class man!! I knew Joe Caldwell from when I was a young boy in the teacher's quorum and he was in our Bishopric. He always treated me so well that I have many fond memories of his kindness. These memories still stand out in my mind today. That says a great deal about the character of Joe, that he would have had such a positive effect on a person as he did on me! In fact, my entire family has always thought the world of Joe Caldwell! You will be missed Bro. Caldwell! Kevin Miller and the Miller Family
