Glenda Myrle Shields, age 85, passed away peacefully on the morning of July 26, 2026, at Rocky Mountain Care Center in Tooele, Utah.
Glenda was born on February 5, 1941, in Tooele, Utah, to Arthur Lowell Shields and Louise Arundel Sudbury Shields. She was the third of four children, having two older sisters and a younger brother.
After graduating from high school, Glenda attended beauty school and earned her cosmetology license. She spent much of her life helping others look and feel their best, caring for family members and loyal clients with the same loving attention she gave to everything she did.
One of Glenda's greatest joys was dancing. It was through dancing that she fell for the love of her life, Fred Arlen "Buzz" Shields. They married when they were both just 19 years old, and from the beginning it was clear they were meant to spend their lives together. Their marriage of nearly 66 years was built on love, faith, and devotion.
Together Glenda and Buzz welcomed four children into their family. Their firstborn, Tonya, was followed two years later by David Kip, who passed away shortly after birth. Their son Clae came soon after. Their youngest child, Leslie, also passed away shortly after birth. Though they experienced profound loss, Glenda's love for her family remained steadfast and enduring.
Glenda was an exceptional homemaker who poured her love into every detail of family life. Her home was always a place of warmth, comfort, and unconditional love.
As her family grew, so did its needs. Glenda worked in a variety of jobs to help support the family, eventually becoming a supervisor at Finesse Drapery. It was a challenging and rewarding career in which she took great pride.
In later years, Glenda found joy in serving others through volunteer work. Among her many informal and quiet acts of service, she helped run the gift shop at the local hospital for many years, where her warm smile and kind heart touched countless lives.
Nothing brought Glenda greater happiness than her grandchildren. She cherished every moment they were together. Her favorite activity with them was hosting grand cousin sleepovers, making sure they were well-fed, entertained, and surrounded by love. The memories they created together will remain treasured by her family for generations.
Glenda was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and dedicated much of her life to serving others. She faithfully fulfilled many callings throughout the years and later served alongside Buzz as a temple worker in the Salt Lake Temple. Her quiet faith was reflected in the way she lived each day—with compassion, humility, generosity, and Christlike service.
Those who knew Glenda will remember her for her incredible kindness, gentle spirit, unwavering love, and willingness to serve anyone in need. She made people feel welcome, cared for, and valued, and her legacy of love will continue through the many lives she touched.
Glenda was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur Lowell Shields and Louise Arundel Sudbury Shields; her children, David and Leslie; and her sisters, Lonnie Shields Gifford and Jeanniene Shields Rydalch.
She is survived by her beloved husband of nearly 66 years, Fred Arlen "Buzz" Shields; brother, Arthur Kenneth "Ken" Shields; daughter, Tonya Passey; son, Clae Shields; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many extended family members and dear friends who will miss her deeply.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the Lakeview Ward LDS Chapel, 2032 Churchwood Drive, Pine Canyon, Utah. Friends and family are invited to visit from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the service. Interment will follow at the Tooele City Cemetery.
