Life & Legacy
Allen LeRoy Dobson
September 26, 1943 — February 23, 2024
Tooele

Allen LeRoy Dobson passed away peacefully at his home in the early morning hours on February 23, 2024, with his sweet wife by his side. Allen left a legacy of love, faith, service, and laughter.

Allen was born in Fillmore, Utah on September 26, 1943.  He grew up in the neighboring town of Holden, Utah where he spent hours exploring the hills near his home and occasionally played innocent pranks on the local residents. He graduated from Millard High School in 1961. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved fishing, hunting, and backpacking.

He literally met his sweetheart, Karen Kay McKee, in elementary school and they dated throughout high school and married a few years later on November 21, 1964. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple.  After almost 60 years of marriage, they were an example of love, commitment, support, and sacrifice. They built their home in Tooele, Utah and Allen worked for Tooele Army Depot as an electrical technician. Together they raised their two children, Cory and Nicole. They taught their children hard work, love, respect, faith, and a love of nature and the outdoors. They spent many vacations camping, fishing, hiking, and exploring the beauty of God’s creations.

Allen had a plethora of hobbies and loved to work with his hands. He could often be found creating wood masterpieces, tying fishing flies, building fishing poles, taking pictures, or designing home improvement or yard projects.  He made a unique custom fishing pole for each of his grandchildren. He was an artist at heart. There wasn’t anything he couldn’t do if he put his mind to it. He was the ultimate handyman, repairman, and mechanic.

Allen was a friend to everyone and lived without judgment or guile. Although he was a man of few words, he loved to make people laugh with his quick wit and sense of humor. He enjoyed helping and serving his neighbors and treasured his life-long friends. However, his greatest treasure was his family and he was never happier than when he was surrounded by his grandchildren.

Allen is survived by his wife, Karen, son Cory (Bev) Dobson, daughter Nicole (Brad) Clark, seven grandchildren, brothers Norman (Beverly) Dobson and Stephen Dobson, and sister JoLue (Kreig) Kelley. He is preceded in death by his parents Don Roger and Phyllis Stephenson Dobson as well as many aunts and uncles.

We love you and are so grateful for the blessing you have been to all of us. We are grateful for the promise of eternal families and look forward to a beautiful heavenly reunion.

Family and friends can celebrate Allen’s life at a visitation on March 1 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Skyline LDS chapel, 777 Skyline Drive, Tooele, UT.  A graveside service will be held on March 2 at 12:00 at the Holden Utah Cemetery.

Dobson We have had the privilege of living across the street from Allen and his family for the past 45 years. He loved his dear wife, Karen, and could often be seen working hand in hand with her beautifying their home and yard. He was a craftsman and handyman and was always willing to lend out his tools. He & Karen are wonderful neighbors and we love their family. Allen will be dearly missed.
