He served as President of the Kappa Sigma fraternity, President of the Interfraternity Council, served on the Student Council and was selected to “Who’s Who among Students in American Universities and Colleges. Gary met his first wife, Sharon Wardle at Utah State, they were married and had four beautiful girls their mother Sharon passed away very unexpectedly. Gary then quit his job as an aerospace engineer and returned to the family recreational business. He met Mary Potter Smith and her three beautiful children and they were married. Together they had a baby boy to make a grand total of eight children.
Gary returned to the aerospace industry after a few years and retired in the early 90’s. Gary served in many capacities for his church, including scouting, Young Men’s organization, and as Bishop of the Tooele 6th Ward, Tooele Stake. Gary and Mary have since worked for several years in the Salt Lake Temple and served a mission to the St. George Temple Visitors Center.

I’m so grateful to have met Gary and have had such a kind neighbor. I will never forget seeing him pop over the fence to say hello. I appreciate Gary’s kindness and ability to make us laugh with his sweet stories and amazing vegetables he’d pass over the fence. Gary would pass his ladder over the fence so the neighbors can pick apricots. It brought me comfort knowing he was right next door to me. Thank you Gary and Mary for being such sweet neighbors. Gary will be missed.

To all of Gary’s family, we send our deep love from Uncle Gerald’s family. Our sweet cousin Gary will always be remembered for his love, kindness, sense of humor, and down right fun spirit. What a blessing to leave mortality on Easter. The reminder of his glorious return to his fathers and mothers and a promised resurrection himself. We joy in his life at this sacred time. From your cousins who loved Gary ultimately!

Mary and Family,
I am so sorry for your lose, we are family or at least have been since the 70's, I have many fond memories of sleep overs, camping trips and general get togethers. One of my fondest memories was when we were camping and I crashed and burned on a dirt bike, Gary wiped my tears, dusted off my knees and told me that it was ok and he helped me get back on the bike and continue to learn how to ride, he was and always will be my second dad and I miss his contagious laugh and smile. He is my fathers best friend and no matter what he was doing if we needed him he was there with bells on. I am sorry that I can not be there to hug you all and let you know that I am here for you, please hug each other and now that your are in my thoughts and prayers.
I love you all
