Ruth Anne Darling May 21, 1937 — June 11, 2024 Grantsville
Ruth Anne Darling, 87 of Grantsville passed away, June 11, 2024, with her family by her side. Ruth was born May 21, 1937in Michigan to Earl Rumbaugh and Ruby Ordiway and was then adopted by Floyd and Madeline Whittington.
Ruth was a survivor and one of strongest women you’d ever meet. In 1970, she married the love of her life, Harold Darling, and they lived together in Michigan then Dugway before settling in Grantsville for the last 41 years. Even after 53 years of marriage, she’d comment, after catching herself staring at him, that she couldn’t believe how lucky she was to have him.
She is survived by eight of her ten children: Debbie Fewless (Scott), of Michigan; Mary Minnema (Jim), of Michigan; Sally Leggett (Dave), of Florida; Tammy Paddock (Darren), of Michigan; Randy Darling (Stephanie) of New Mexico; Robert Darling (Debbie), of Utah; Tim Darling (Julie), of Idaho; Chad Darling (Becky), of Utah. She was preceded in death by her children Scott Karasiewicz, and June Connell (Keith); Son-in-law Dave Leggett; Grandchildren Anthony Johnson and Leesa Darling. She is survived by 43 grandchildren, 67 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren. Ruth appreciated Canyon Hospice and their nurses, especially home health aide Jade Landis who Ruth loved so much that she wanted to adopt her.
Ruth had a heart of gold. She always strived to make sure she put her children first whenever possible. She worked long hours to provide what was needed. She loved cooking, crafts, sewing and playing board/card games with her children and grandchildren. Some of her favorite expletives were “heifer dust” and “bat barf”. She had a wonderful sense of humor and loved attending plays at Desert Star playhouse. She was no shrinking violet either, once when her husband was away on business, she changed the radiator in the car on her own.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, July 13, 2024 from Noon to 3:00 PM at the LDS church, outdoor pavilion, located at 220 W 2200 N, Tooele, Utah. Please join us for a light lunch and sharing memories of this amazing woman. The family requests that people make donations in support of the local animal shelter or the humane society in lieu of sending flowers.

One of the best days of my life was when Ruth & Harold moved right across the street as our neighbors. I was immediately captured by her genuine love and care. She loved all she came in contact with. So very non judgemental and accepting. I will always treasure her special gifts she found and shared with me. There is a big space across the street that no one can fill, but her love and memories of her will always have a special place in my heart. Thank you Harold for sharing her.
