Michael John Parsons December 17, 1969 — November 15, 2022 Grantsville
Michael John Parsons was born December 17th, 1969 in Whitecourt, Alberta Canada to Marjorie Sanford and David Parsons.
Michael lived a devoted life of service for his family, his country, and his fellow men. He achieved the rank of Chief Master Sergeant in the Air Force Reserve, and spent his life as a Police Officer, Fire Fighter, Fire Instructor, and as a Paramedic for the EOD among other places. In the Air Force, he was a part of the 419th Fighter Wing at Hill Air Force Base. He served 4 tours of duty, and was the honored recipient of many awards throughout his lifetime, including Airman of the Year (1998, 2006), the Chiefs Award (2002), AFRC Military Fire Office of the Year (2005), and the Commander's Award for Civilian Service from The Army (2017).
Michael had a deep love for his family and was obsessed with his grandchildren, often being referred to as the ‘baby whisperer.” He had an incredibly fun-loving personality, and all those who knew him loved him. He was the type of man who would give his life to his community as a Fire Fighter, while also volunteering as the soccer and football coach for his children. Service was the focal point of his life, and he lived as an outstanding example of someone who gave their life in service to others. He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and served a church service mission with his wife at the Family History Center in Salt Lake. He always reminded his loved ones that this life will always bring trials, but to always remember the big picture.
Michael is survived by his eternal sweetheart, Ann, and four children: Mikey (Ashley) Parsons, Brooke (Aaron) Angus, Mandy (Chandler) Hertzler, and Brittney Parsons. He had and adored five wonderful grandchildren: Andrew, McCoy, Boston, Kaylee, and Elliana. He is also survived by his parents, David Parsons and Marjorie (Robert) Sanford, and 4 siblings: Cyndi (Joel) Jackson, Daniel (Melissa) Parsons, Amber Geissler-Sanford, and Billy (Shannon) Parsons. He is preceded in death by his brothers, Chris and James Sanford. He was instantly loved by all who met him and he will be deeply missed.
Services to celebrate his life will be held on Tuesday, November 22nd 2022. The viewing and funeral services will be held at the LDS Church Building (550 E Durfee, Grantsville, UT 84029). The graveside services will be at Utah Veterans Cemetery & Memorial Park (17111 South Camp Williams Road, Bluffdale UT 84065).

Big Picture
About a month before Michael died. I called my dad and asked him for a blessing. He then picked me up after he got off work. We then sat in the church parking lot, and we talked about the things I was struggling with at the time. We also got talking about the time that he was gone with the military and how it hurt me to never see him. I’m so glad that 1 I was able to get that off my chest and 2 that I was able to tell him that I forgive him for missing that time. He told me that he has been getting the feeling that he needs to talk to me. He then told me “Mike we are always going to have trials no matter what stage we are in life. That is why it’s so important that we always remember the big picture and the Atonement of Christ”. He then said that he knows that I asked for a blessing but that he’s been struggling as well. He asked me if it would be ok to pray together rather than giving a blessing. I agreed and we both said prayers in each other’s behalf.
I miss my heavenly brother, friend, and dad dearly. So, in closing I ask all that reads this to always remember the big picture and not get burdened down by the small things in life, that we may be an eternal family.
With love
Michael Parsons Jr.

Mike and myself were Chiefs the same time for the 419th Civil Engineers. He served in the FD Active Duty at Fairchild shortly after I left there on my acive duty tour. He always found common ground to discuss with everyone he met things that were relatable. Mike made you feel glad you had a chance to meet and talk with him. He will be greatly missed by all those that knew him. To the family; So very sorry for your loss. God bless you and may he provide comfort always knowing we are all God's children.

Mike Parsons will be missed by so many people that loved and adored him. My best memory comes from when I was in his Webelos scout troop. Mike did almost all of the work, something that shouldn’t fall in the leader’s hands. Mike willingly took on the task of writing a troop song and our chant. He will be missed by so many people including me.

My favorite memory of him was coming up with a name for his hot pepper powder that he would bring to the fire station. We decided on Papa Parsons Pepper Powder.

I was fortunate to serve with Mike for 15 plus years and I was able to go on deployments, Training, Conferences with him. Many positive memories shared in places all over the world. Favorite memory was fishing with him in Alaska and a couple Blackhawk helicopter rides. Always had a smile on his face! Great friend, boss, Chief. RIP my friend!
